For several years, we've had a vision of creating interactive learning spaces for preschoolers at our libraries to complement our other school readiness programs.
Recently, the library received two gifts totaling $60,000 to be used for early childhood education. Thanks to the generosity of these two donors, we're installing a colorful early learning activity area at the Columbia Public Library with interactive panels that let kids practice fine motor skills, letter recognition and creative play.
We'll unveil the new area Friday, November 1 with a ribbon-cutting at noon. Then, we'll continue the celebration on Saturday, November 2 with two concerts by children's musician Jim Cosgrove and his band The Hiccups at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
