A Note From the Director

Melissa Carr, DBRL Director

We can’t say it enough. Our children’s future success in school and beyond hinges on mastering some basic learning skills before they attend Kindergarten. Research proves it, teachers see it in their classrooms and we see it here at the library.

There are simple ways to help your kids master these skills. You'll find several ideas in the special insert in this newsletter. Keep it handy to remind yourself of some helpful hints inside. If you have a question, feel free to talk to one of our children’s librarians. We’ve worked with many parents and child care providers on these topics, and we’ll be glad to talk with you, too.

Recognizing the importance of early childhood learning, the State of Missouri provided the funds* for the insert in this newsletter, which goes to every household in Boone and Callaway Counties.

Whether you’re a parent, grandparent or friend of a family with young children, we hope you'll join us in this important effort to get our children ready for school.

*Funding provided by a Library Services and Technology Act "Racing to Read" grant as administered by the Missouri State Library, a division of the Office of the Secretary of State.
