Boone County Library District Changes Meeting Locations to Better Serve Residents

October 2007

In an ongoing effort to reach out to library district residents and to be responsible to all taxpayers, the Boone County Library District Board of Trustees plans to hold meetings in various locations throughout the district. The first meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, October 23 at 7 p.m. in the board room at the Central Office, Sturgeon R-V School, 210 W Patton Street.

"Holding meetings throughout the area we serve is a sharp contrast to past years, when we have most often met at the regional headquarters in Columbia. We hope that by holding our meetings in several locations in the county, we can encourage more people to attend and take part in the process for providing quality library services," said Boone County Library District President Jessica Robinson.

All of the Boone County Library District meetings are open to the public and residents are encouraged to attend. Robinson hopes conducting meetings throughout the district will provide more citizens an easy way to become involved with the library and learn more about their board and the countless services the library provides.

"One thing we learned from last April¹s election is that we can do a better job reaching out to the people we serve," continued Robinson. Last April, Boone County Library District voters defeated a property tax increase to support two new libraries in the district.

The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, December 5 at 7 p.m. in Harrisburg at the VFW Hall, 1000 South Harris.

The BCLD is one of three library districts that are part of the Daniel Boone Regional Library system. The district includes everything in Boone County outside the 1965 city limits of Columbia and Centralia.
