As you wind down from the summer and get into fall activities, I hope you’re including the library’s community-wide One Read program as part of your fun activities. We have a variety of entertaining and thought-provoking programming tied to this year’s selected book “Await Your Reply” by Dan Chaon, which delves into the lives of three characters struggling with identity loss in this digital age. All our One Read programs are listed online or you can pick up an event booklet at your library.
As our digital branch has grown and improved to allow library content and services to be available 24/7, we felt it was essential to provide you with a version that was easier to navigate on your cell phone. Our new mobile site will give you easy access to basic library information such as locations, hours, news and upcoming programs (like September’s One Read programs) as well as the ability to quickly contact the library.
For those of you who like to listen to books, you can now check out as many Playaway audiobooks as you wish at one time. These compact electronic devices each hold a single audiobook from our collection of children’s books, adult fiction, classics and nonfiction. You can also access eBooks and download audiobooks through our website. More people than ever check out electronic titles and it is the fastest growing service we offer.
We continue to make good progress implementing our strategic plan. Right now, we’re launching two projects that will improve access, convenience and quality of services outside our library buildings. Library-To-Go lockers, unveiling at Ed’s Quik Stop in Hallsville on August 30, will give those in northern Boone County a more convenient place to pick up hold requests and return library materials. Our replacement youth bookmobile, called Bookmobile, Jr., will start visiting licensed child care centers in areas without a library building in September. And, of course, we continue to add databases and other resources accessible to our library card-holders through our website.
Enjoy your library this fall. It offers you free educational and entertaining programming for the entire family as well as reading materials, music CDs and DVDs. Pick up a copy of the new "Cover to Cover" to see what is happening at the library or find programming information at on our online calendar or at m.dbrl.org.
P.S. We’re interested in knowing what you like and don’t like about “Cover to Cover.” We would appreciate you taking a moment to give us feedback by filling out a brief survey. Thank you in advance for your input.
