Test Proctoring

Approved: 10-14-04

Although Daniel Boone Regional Library facilities are not test centers, designated staff at the various DBRL facilities may proctor examinations for local patrons in our role of supporting life-long learning.

The staff provides this test-proctoring service at the convenience of library staff when library responsibilities allow it. The library will charge a nominal fee to help cover the cost of staff time, coordination of the service, etc.

Individuals requiring test proctoring from colleges located within our two county system will be referred to the local college.

Test Proctoring Procedures

  1. Purpose

Long-distance learning programs and some professions provide opportunities for independent study on the condition that exams be proctored. ; In recent years, the number of colleges and universities offering online classes has increased dramatically; this has led to increased demand from our patrons for proctoring services. Although Daniel Boone Regional Library facilities are not test centers, in response to this demand, the Library may administer examinations in our role of supporting life-long learning. The staff provides this service at the convenience of library staff when library responsibilities allow.

  1. Scope

Residents of our two-county area may apply for test proctoring. Note: however, that students of local colleges (Columbia College, Stephens College, William Woods University, Westminster College, Moberly Area Community College and the University of Missouri) will need to contact their own institutions for test proctoring. ; Individuals applying for test proctoring must have a valid DBRL library card.

  1. Fees

Staff will provide proctoring services for a total of one test period (up to two hours) per person at no cost. For additional time for the first test period or additional tests beyond the first one, there will be a fee of $10 per hour (for full or partial hours) to help recover some of the costs of coordinating, supervising the exam, recordkeeping and other staff time needed.

The student will be responsible for any incidental costs, such as postage to mail back the test; the cost of faxing the test ($1.00 per page); photocopying the answer sheet (10 cents per page); etc. Payment of fees and other costs will be due at the scheduled time of the examination.

  1. Administration

Depending on time and availability of staff, professional library staff (or designated staff) will administer either written or online exams at facilities of the Daniel Boone Regional Library. The staff will administer tests during regular weekday hours. It may be possible to set an evening time if the librarian or designated staff member is available. If it is determined that the proctoring request is unreasonable in its demands or too burdensome to administer, the Library reserves the right to deny this service.

At least one week’s notice is required.

Any individual needing test proctoring will need to complete the required form (“Request for Test Proctoring”) and discuss individual needs with the coordinator of this service.

The institutions requiring proctored testing are responsible for making sure that library staff receives the examinations.
