Petitioning and Campaigning

Approved: 10-10-96
Revised: 10-14-04

POLICY

The Daniel Boone Regional Library upholds the presentation of petitions as a fundamental right of political expression. However, aggressive solicitation by petitioners toward patrons entering and leaving the library is prohibited.

Petition solicitation is prohibited on library property except in designated areas at each facility.

Campaigning at any location on library premises, whether for ballot issues or for elective office, is prohibited at all times, other than legally designated election days when the building is used as a polling place. On election days, such peaceably and reasonably conducted campaigning shall be permitted, but only in those areas, which are at least 25 feet outside of the library entrance and which are designated by the library for such purposes. Campaign signs and political signs, for ballot issues and elective office, may not, at any time, on election day or otherwise, be placed or hung on library premises, at any location.
