Ken Burns and Lynn Novick’s ten-part, 18-hour documentary series tells the epic story of one of the most consequential, divisive and controversial events in American history as it has never before been told on film. The series explores the human dimensions of the war through revelatory testimony from all sides — Americans who fought in the war and others who opposed it, as well as combatants and civilians from North and South Vietnam.

The Music of Strangers
Website / Reviews
Playing this year at the True False Film Fest and at DBRL’s Center Aisle Cinema, this documentary tells the story of the renowned international musical collective created by legendary cellist Yo-Yo Ma. The film follows this group of diverse instrumentalists, vocalists, composers, arrangers, visual artists and storytellers as they explore the power of music to preserve tradition, shape cultural evolution and inspire hope.

Abacus: Small Enough to Jail
Website / Reviews
Shown at the 2017 True False Film Fest, this documentary tells the saga of the Chinese immigrant Sung family, owners of Abacus Federal Savings of Chinatown, New York. Abacus became the only U.S. bank to face criminal charges in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis. The indictment and subsequent trial forces the Sung family to defend themselves — and their bank’s legacy in the Chinatown community — in a five-year legal battle.

Stray Dog
Website / Reviews
Shown at both the Citizen Jane Film Fest and at DBRL’s Center Aisle Cinema, this documentary is a portrait of a motorcycle-riding, freedom-loving, Vietnam veteran cast in the mold of an outlaw biker. The film follows Missourian Ronnie “Stray Dog” Hall as he caravans on his Harley with fellow vets to pay tribute to their fallen brothers at the Vietnam Memorial. But there’s much more to the burly, bearded man than meets the eye.
