Concert: Steve & Ruth Smith
Columbia Public Library, Friends Room

Steve and Ruth have been playing together for over 35 years. They make their home in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina and they play the traditional music of Appalachia with hammered and mountain dulcimer, fingerstyle guitar and old-time banjo and vocals. Both of Scots-Irish heritage, the Smiths take the audience from the traditional Celtic music of Scotland and Ireland which immigrants brought to Appalachia, on through the early music of the Southern Highlands and up to their original modern tunes about mountain life and rural values. In 2013, they were named Americana Instrumental Group of the Year by the Appalachian Cultural Music Association. Adults and teens.
