Welcome from the Director

Nearly 100 years ago, an enthusiastic group of citizens embraced the idea of a public library and took swift action to create the Fulton Free Public Library. After three renovations and one expansion, we now, as the Callaway County Public Library (CCPL) and a member of the Daniel Boone Regional Library (DBRL) system, enter into another era of library service.

The priorities of this third renovation project, which began with the exterior in 2002, were to make exterior and interior repairs, to make more efficient use of space, to improve the lighting and to improve the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system. I believe that these improvements will help our staff provide even better library service, and provide a warm, welcoming space for all the residents of Callaway County and the regional library system.

As has been the case throughout the library’s history, this project would not have been possible without the help of the Callaway community. First, I would like to thank the DBRL Board of Trustees for its support of this project, and especially the Ad Hoc CCPL Facility Committee, who volunteered so much extra time to see it through. Thank you, also, to the Callaway County Commissioners, who appoint the library trustees and who continually support library services in this county. The staff is to be commended for their dedication, service and hard work while moving the library to the temporary facility and back. And, of course, I want to thank the design and construction team, including Kerry Renner, Jessica Moser, John Mueller, Dan Schulte, Shannon Schulte, Pat Dawson, Russell Niermeyer and the library’s project manager, Elinor Barrett.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the donors who have helped to make the renovation project, and the library as a whole, even better. These donors include the Friends of the Callaway County Public Library, and the friends and families of Ernest and Evelyn Hillard and David W. White. I also thank the DBRL Foundation for its support of library services, and its administration of the Julia R. Keckeley Endowment, which has meant so much to this library.
