Forgotten Google Tools
Columbia Public Library, Polo

Remember when Google was just a search engine? Yeah...me neither. The explosion of Google’s online platform has overshadowed some very useful and unique tools. Google’s photo editing and organizing tool, Picasa, has gained even more powerful features over the last year. Google Books has an ever growing list of eBooks. Google Scholar is a great resource for primary source documents, journal articles, and other research information. Google has a URL shortener that will allow you to create QR codes, opening up the possibility of new ways for patrons to explore the library. Revisit some of these great tools in this informational session. We will also take a look at Google’s sense of humor with some of their fun Easter Eggs.

Read for the Record With Your Preschooler
Regional

"Read for the Record" is an annual reading celebration sponsored by Jumpstart to raise awareness about the importance of early literacy. Stop by any library on Tuesday, Oct. 21 to read "Bunny Cakes" by Rosemary Wells with your preschooler. We'll keep a tally of all the readers we see at our libraries with this book and send it in to be a part of this worldwide effort. For more information about Jumpstart see www.jstart.org or stop by one of their programs at the Columbia Public Library. Can’t make it in? You can take part by reading the book for free at We Give Books (www.wegivebooks.org), a free digital reading initiative by Penguin and the Pearson Foundation. Each of our libraries is also hosting related activities on this day; check separate listings for times.
