Didgeridoo Down Under

This energetic show combines Australian music and culture with puppetry, comedy and audience participation. Aboriginal Australians have played the otherworldly didgeridoo for at least 1,500 years. Learn about Aussie culture, animals and more, while grooving to the pulsing rhythms of this unique instrument played by percussionist Raihan Alam. The show also will also features his pet reptiles, including Jellybean, the Australian blue-tongued lizard! You can find out more about Digeridoo Down Under at http://www.didgrevolution.com. Superhero Training Academy

Attention all superhero fans! Whether you long to fly with Superman or lean a little more toward the Captain Underpants style, you need the Daniel Boone Regional Library Superhero Training Academy. Under our advanced tutelage, you will select your own superhero name, develop a secret identity and super powers and then get on to the serious business of creating costumes and training as heroes. Ages 3 and older. Registration begins Tuesday, June 30.

Parasol Puppets: Susie Saves the Day!

Each of puppeteer Peter Allen’s performances is unique. How shall the story begin? What will happen? How can our hero, Susie, save the day? No two shows will ever be the same because the audience works collectively to create the show from the “Puppet Menu.” Enjoy this hand-puppet adventure filled with audience participation. Recommended ages 3 and older. Registration begins Tuesday, July 7.

Laughing Matters: Hapless Heroes and Their Funny Feats
Columbia Public Library, Children's Program Room

Some are born heroic. Others just bumble into it. Jay and Leslie of Laughing Matters explore feats of skill and daring as well as feats of dumb luck in this show. Highlights include plenty of juggling, a touch of magic and the adventures of library hero Dewey Decimal. Jay and Leslie studied with the famous mime Marcel Marceau and have performed more than 6,000 times in 35 states and seven foreign countries. Twice nominated for Best of Kansas City Theater Awards, they received the 2010 Lighton Prize for Excellence as Teaching Artists. Ages 4 and older.
