Jugglers Jay and Leslie Cady know a thing or two about catching. In “Bugaboo and Other Catch Phrases,” they are busy as bees as they juggle and do tricks while telling stories about our insect friends. This month's themes are religion, philosophy, poetry and literature. First Tuesday sales feature some of the very best books that have been donated to the Friends. The Friends also conduct sales every Tuesday in the library lobby Noon-3 p.m. and now also in the evenings, 5-7 p.m. All proceeds go to support library services.

Your child can read to a dog from the Show Me Canines therapy group. This is a unique and fun way to help improve children's literacy skills. All dogs are certified by Therapy Dogs International and overseen by a handler during the reading sessions. Kindergarten age and older.

First Wednesday Book Discussion Noon-1 p.m. Friends Room
Bring a snack and join us to discuss "Magic Hour" by Kristin Hannah. Dr. Julia Cates has spent years focusing on little else than building an impressive career as a child psychiatrist. When a client goes on a shooting rampage, the girl’s parents and the media blame Julia for not predicting the tragedy. Her career in shambles, she goes home to Rain Valley, Washington where her sister, the chief of police, is trying to help a mysterious, lost girl who cannot speak and has scars from ankle restraints. (The discussion of the book "Abraham" by Bruce Feiler, previously scheduled for today, has been rescheduled for October 1.) Celebrate the end of the "Metamorphosis" reading challenge. We’ll have a Guitar Hero play-off, refreshments and a drawing for those who participated in the reading challenge. Everyone has a story to tell. Whether a life is unconventional or relatively normal, there’s bound to be an interesting detail. The contemporary memoir about everyday people telling their tales has become an extremely popular form. Magazines and bookstores are filled with memoirs and a lucky few, such as "Angela’s Ashes" and "The Liar’s Club," have even made the bestseller lists recently. Bug-Sized Worlds 5:30-7:30 p.m. Gene Martin Secret Garden
In the spirit of "The Borrowers" and "The Littles," drop in to create your own miniature, bug-sized world with supplies we provide. If the weather is nice, we'll be outside creating little garden-inspired worlds you can leave outdoors. Who knows, maybe you'll attract a friendly fairy to visit for a while! Ages 5-12, parental participation required for younger participants. In case of rain, we will create indoor worlds in the children's program room. Registration begins Tuesday, July 29.

We hope you've had a great time reading your way through the summer. Today is the last day for participants to turn in completed forms and claim rewards for all of the Summer Reading programs (Catch the Reading Bug, Group Summer Reading, Baby Bugs and Metamorphosis Teen Reading Challenge).
Ugly Bug Ball 10 a.m.-Noon
Wrap up the summer by making your own bug masks, headbands and insectoid accessories and then dancing up a storm to songs about bugs. All ages.

Meet some furry friends who are available for adoption at the Central Missouri Humane Society. Volunteers from the Humane Society will be available to discuss pet care and the Society's activities. |

"Was There a Band Here Tonight?" 7 p.m.
Krazy Kats front man Lee Dresser has written a book about this mid-Missouri band's adventures over the last 50 years. Tonight, Lee will discuss his book, “Was There a Band Here Tonight,” and fill you in on the stories behind where he first met Bob Hope, how he was “discovered” by Regis Philbin and why he was lying on Wilt Chamberlain’s bed. The legendary Krazy Kats were formed on Valentine's Day 1957, when guitarist Lee Dresser, piano man Willie Craig and drummer Freddie Fletcher (all Moberly high-schoolers) decided they wanted to rock 'n' roll just like Elvis, Jerry Lee and Fats. Now based in the Kansas City area, the talented trio is closing in on 4,000 performances together and still thrilling audiences with their unique style of classic 50s and 60s music. Amateur Radio Day 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Friends Room
Members of the Callaway Amateur Radio League will demonstrate their techniques on what is commonly called "ham radio." There will be demonstrations of radio operations with Morse code, handheld radio, voice over internet technology and computer links. Drop in to see vintage radios and equipment and make a transmission of your own to other operators throughout the state, U.S. and possibly even the world. Short sessions during the morning and afternoon will instruct you in the qualifications for obtaining an operational license.
Home Buying 101 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Friends Room
This pre-purchase home-buyer's seminar will teach you about the entire home-buying process, from start to finish. Completion of the class may qualify you for up to $4,000 toward your down payment or closing costs. Cosponsored and presented by the not-for-profit Enterprise Development Corporation using City of Columbia Community Development Block Grant funds. There is a $10 registration fee. Space is limited.
