In 1864, there were 78 men between the ages of 20 and 45 listed on the rolls of the Ioway Nation. Of that number, nearly two-thirds volunteered to serve in the Union army during the Civil War. Author and historian Greg Olson will explore the circumstances that led to the Ioways’ enlistment, examine their experiences in the military and discuss some of the ways their service may have changed them.
