Join Museum of Art and Archaeology Director Alex Barker and participate in a discussion of artist Jack Keijo Steele’s painting "The Battle of the Overpass" along with other artworks that represent the African-American experience displayed in the museum's American Gallery. Steele depicts an infamous clash between auto workers and Ford Motor Company guards that occurred on May 26, 1937. Additional discussion leaders include Alyssa Liles-Amponsah, M.A., Ed.M., from the division of Inclusion, Diversity & Equity at the University of Missouri and Nikki McGruder, regional manager of the Diversity Awareness Partnership — Columbia. This discussion complements our One Read program exploring "The Turner House," a novel set in Detroit.
