Monday, September 17 › 5:30 p.m.
Columbia, Ragtag Cinema, 10 Hitt St.
As we explore Native American history in this year's One Read selection, filmmakers Adam Khalil and Zack Khalil's experimental documentary explores the construction of contemporary indigenous identity. Upending traditional storytelling, "INNATE/SE/" re-imagines an ancient Ojibway story, the Seven Fires Prophecy, which both predates and predicts first contact with Europeans. Preceded by "The Violence of a Civilization Without Secrets," the Khalil brothers' new short film, which investigates the legacy of "Kennewick Man." A discussion will follow. (This screening is also a part of Ragtag's Afterwords series, where special guests are invited to help us better understand a new movie. Supported by the Columbia Office of Cultural Affairs.) (2016, not rated, 75 minutes)
Registration: Not required.
