Are You Ready for a Picnic?

Spring is such a wonderful time of year for a picnic in the park. Here are some fun ideas to try on your next picnic adventure!

Start out your picnic with some rhymes:

We’re going on a picnic.
Gonna pack a lunch.
What should we get to munch munch munch?
(Ask kids to name some yummy foods for a picnic, and then chant the song again.)

Carrots, Peas and Broccoli

Carrots, peas and broccoli,
Vegetables are good for me.
For my snack and in my lunch,
Veggie sticks are great to munch.

Vegetables are good for me

Next, make some picnic snacks:

Peanut Butter Snail

Ingredients
2 Medium celery sticks
1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
3 apple rings cut in half (to make 6 half moon-shaped apple pieces)
4 pretzel sticks broken into thirds
12 mini semisweet chocolate morsels

Instructions
Cut each celery rib into three equal pieces. Fill centers with half of the peanut butter. Spoon remaining peanut butter into small resealable food storage bag, and snip one corner off to make a small hole. Pipe two lines of peanut butter on one side of each apple piece, following shape of apple. Insert apple pieces, cut side down, into the peanut butter in the celery pieces. Place 2 mini morsels next to each other at one end of each piece of celery to resemble eyes. Place a pretzel piece over each eye to resemble antennas. Check out Walmart.com for a photo and more information about this snack.
