All About Little Red Reading Boxes

The Daniel Boone Regional Library loans out Little Red Reading Boxes to child care providers and, now, also to families with young children. Each box contains reading and story time materials based on a theme. The materials in each box include books, a video tape, an audio tape, a puppet and a packet of related activities.

The boxes are stored at the Columbia Public Library and you can ask for them there at the Children's Desk.

You will also find the boxes listed in our electronic catalog, so you can easily put one on hold from the Callaway County or Southern Boone County Public Libraries, from the Bookmobile, or from home through our online catalog. In the catalog, just search for "Little Red Reading Boxes" in the "Title" field and then choose which theme you want and place a hold like you would with any other library item. You will receive a notice in the mail when your box is ready to be picked up.

Little Red Reading Boxes check out for one month (30 days) at a time. There are many duplicate boxes of each theme, so availability is not usually a problem.

If you have questions call the Children's Desk at the Columbia Public Library at (573) 817-7160.

The Little Red Reading Box project is funded by a Library Services and Construction Act grant and the Boone County Child Care Consortium.
