The library offers wonderful resources for all seasons of life. As I prepare for my own maternity leave, I want to highlight some amazing resources for expecting and new parents. All of the Library’s programs and services are always FREE!
For expecting or brand-new parents, these Parent Pack kits include books about pregnancy and parenting, a yoga DVD and a set of pamphlets and free book for you to keep.
SOAR (System Offering Actions for Resilience in Early Childhood) is a local coalition committed to developing programs to promote the social-emotional wellness of children age 0-8 and their families in Boone County.
If you haven’t tried out a story time yet, this is a must! We offer wonderful options for babies at all three of our library locations. Enjoy songs, rhymes, and activities. Story time offers not only a wonderful opportunity for babies to see and interact with other babies but also a great chance for parents and caregivers to meet and connect too. Because, let’s be honest, it takes a village!
Play as Learning (PAL) kits help parents and children explore learning in a play-like atmosphere. PAL kits contain books, toys, CD’s and DVD’s for young children ages birth-2 years. You can get a PAL kit at your local library branch or bookmobile, and they check out for four weeks.
Below are a few books I have personally found helpful as we prepare for our baby’s arrival.
- “Raising Grateful Kids in An Entitled World” by Kristen Welch
- “The Mama Natural Week-by-week Guide to Pregnancy & Childbirth” by Genevieve Howland
- “The Pregnancy Encyclopedia” published by DK Publishing
