photo of jack-o-lanternsFall is in the air, and with the new season comes new and exciting library programs! Join us at one or all of our library branches for some spooktacular programs this October. See below for specific times and dates.

Pumpkin Art Contest

Columbia Public Library

Carve or paint a pumpkin to be part of our “Pumpkin Parade” on October 10. Show off your creative flair by crafting a pumpkin with a reading, library or book character theme. We’ll invite kid judges to vote for their favorites. Teen and adult artists can turn in pumpkins Monday, October 9, 9 a.m.-9 p.m. or Tuesday, October 10, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Flameless tea light candles provided for carved pumpkins. Prizes awarded to the best-loved pumpkins; need not be present to win. Displayed pumpkins can be picked up through Wednesday, October 11. Adults and teens, 12 and older. Registration not required.

Pumpkin Parade

Tuesday, October 10:  4-6 p.m.
Columbia Public Library, Children’s Program Room

Kids can view carved and painted pumpkins created by local artists and vote for their favorite! Cookies and punch served during the viewing. Ages 12 and younger for voting. Registration not required.

Kids in the Kitchen: Spooktacular Treats

Saturday, October 21:  2-3 p.m.
Columbia Public Library, Friends Room

Join us in making Halloween a bit healthier with this fun and interactive kids’ cooking class. Children will be making four mysterious tasty recipes: candy corn parfaits, witches’ brew, monster fruit dip and dirt & worms to eat or take home. Organized by the Central Missouri Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Ages 3-9 with a parent. Registration: Begins Tuesday, October 10.

Halloween Extravaganza

Wednesday, October 25:  2:30-4:30 p.m.
Southern Boone County Public Library

Come for an early Halloween celebration where we’ll play games, make crafts and enjoy snacks for a thriller of an afternoon! Ages 8-14. Registration: Not required.

Little Ones Fall Costume Dance Party

Tuesday, October 24:  9:30-10:30 a.m.
Southern Boone County Public Library

Thursday, October 26:  10-11 a.m., 5:30-6:30 p.m.
Columbia Public Library, Children’s Program Room

Monday, October 30:  10-11 a.m.
Callaway County Public Library

Join us for a super cute gathering of decked-out babies and toddlers. We’ll have a costume dance party, fall-themed games and crafts. Ages birth-5 with adult. Registration: Not required.
