New Hold Pick-up Stations for Hallsville and Holts Summit Coming Soon

Last year, DBRL staff attended a demonstration of hold lockers used by Mid-Continent Public Library at a Kansas City, MO community center.

Scanning your library card opens the locker holding your materials.

A new library pilot project aims to improve access to library services. As part of our strategic planning goal to expand our services, later this year we'll be establishing convenient locations in Hallsville and Holts Summit, Missouri where you can return library materials and even pick up items you've reserved. We're starting this pilot project in two of our busiest bookmobile towns, which also have the largest numbers of holds placed.

A special kind of locker system developed just for libraries is key to our pilot project. These lockers allow us to bring items you place on hold to your town and leave them locked and secure. You can then pick them up at your convenience by scanning your library card. Locker locations will also have book drops nearby, so you can return materials at the same time. New holds will be delivered several times a week.

The bookmobile will also continue to visit both towns two times a month, with its large browsing collection of materials for all ages plus newspapers, magazines and more. Right now, we're in the process of selecting a vendor for the lockers and looking for suitable sites in Hallsville and Holts Summit.

In tandem with the Hallsville and Holts Summit projects, we will also be adding four book drops at locations around Columbia. Watch for more news about these projects on our web site or sign up to receive our e-mail newsletter to find out about library services and events.
