2010 One Read Book Announced
By popular vote of readers in Boone and Callaway Counties, the critically-acclaimed best-selling novel “Await Your Reply” by Dan Chaon was selected as this year’s 2010 One Read book. Paperback copies are now available for check-out at all Daniel Boone Regional Library locations in Ashland, Columbia and Fulton or you can request one for bookmobile delivery in other Boone and Callaway County communities. You can also purchase a copy at many area bookstores.
“Await Your Reply” follows the story of three strangers, each drawn into a world in which identities are invented and reinvented, pasts are erased, and the future is both uncharted and perilously unmoored.
Author Chaon says, “This new novel takes some of the themes that I have long been fascinated by—concepts of identity formation and the ways in which people connect and don’t connect in contemporary society—and applies them to a larger, national and international canvas. I wanted to make use of the tropes and textures of contemporary superstition, conspiracy theory and ‘urban myth’ as a way of both challenging and re-envisioning our cultural perspectives of history, psychology, sociology and politics.”
Readers will have the summer to read the novel. Book discussions, an appearance by Dan Chaon and other programs relating to the book’s theme start in September.
One Read, now in its ninth year, is a community-wide reading program coordinated by Daniel Boone Regional Library and cosponsored by a task force of local businesses, agencies, academic institutions and other groups that encourages adults of all ages to read an discuss a single book.
