Library Named a Dementia Friend

hands clasped across a tableDementia Friends USA is spearheading a national movement to train people on how to better understand what it’s like to have dementia, and how to help and include those who do. After going through organization-wide staff Dementia Friend training sessions, the Daniel Boone Regional Library was designated as a Dementia Friendly organization.

New Bookmobile Stop in Columbia

Find us in the new Schnucks parking lot off the Lake of the Woods exit, and climb on board to find books, music, movies and more. You can also pick up items you’ve requested.

Library Staff Adopt-A-Spot

library staff ready to clean up litterThe library is now part of Columbia’s Adopt-A-Spot Litter Control program, so you’ll be seeing more of us outside the library doing what we can to improve our environment. DBRL’s Sustainability Committee and other library staff met Saturday, July 1 for the first quarterly trash pickup event. We collected 10 bags of trash along the blocks defined by Broadway, Garth, Walnut and Providence Road.

Meet the Board: Jennifer Rodewald

Board member Jennifer RodewaldJennifer Rodewald attended the University of Missouri, where she earned a double-major in English and political science in 2007, and graduated from the University of Iowa College of Law in 2011. She returned to Columbia in 2011, where she now lives with her husband, Brandon, and their two kids, Chloe (age 9) and Jackson (age 4). Jennifer is currently the government relations counsel at Shelter Insurance.

Carolyn and Cletus stand closely and smile in his apartment facing the cameraCarolyn Cain and Cletus Baurichter have been book buddies for over 20 years. It all began when Cletus and his wife moved to Lenoir Woods retirement center in 2001. One fine day, they decided to walk from their new apartment to the Lenoir lobby to check out the Daniel Boone Regional Library’s monthly lobby visit. Standing with a smiling warm face behind a table loaded with books to borrow, was Carolyn, the library staff member helping patrons during that visit.

Language Link Translation Services

This immediate over-the-phone interpretation service will enable our staff to be even more helpful to non-English speakers visiting our libraries or bookmobile.

There are people in our community unable to go to work or attend school because they don’t have the money to buy period supplies. This affects their mental well-being, their earning potential and their opportunity to learn.
