A big part of growing up and learning about the world for little ones is touching, tugging and pulling. The library offers kits you can borrow that let kids learn with their hands as well as eyes and ears. Each kit contains books, toys, a music CD and a DVD. There are kits designed for different developmental stages and they cover a variety of themes like rhymes, ABCs, math and music. Play As Learning (PAL) kits are for birth to age 2 and Little Red Reading Bags are for ages 3-5. We recently added two new themes to our PAL kits: fine motor development and science play.
You can also now check out learning kits based around games for preschoolers and kindergartners. Each Learning Props Game Kit comes with a simple book, a fabric game mat, a die and game pieces. Choose from 11 different games that cover a variety of school-readiness skills such as counting, color recognition and language development.
All three kinds of kits are available by request at any of our libraries or can be brought to your bookmobile stop. The check-out period is four weeks. Visit kids.dbrl.org/kits for further information.
