Witness King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table in the legendary story of the sword and the stone. Arthur, the knights and the wizard Merlin must battle their adversaries, Morgan le Fay and her son Mordred, for the rights to Camelot and the sword Excalibur. Through our play, we hope to encourage children to stand up for what is right and overcome their fears. The play is performed by two actors, each playing several roles, with an emphasis on audience participation. If time allows a Q&A will follow. Ages 6 and older with parent.
There is a criminal loose in the library! Interpret the clues and help find the culprit by using forensic science. Learn to lift fingerprints, interpret shoe-print casts and create chromatographs, just like real crime scene investigators. For ages 8 and older with an adult. Registration begins Tuesday, July 15.
What makes a rocket work? How can it go so fast? We’ll build and launch our own rockets to help us answer these questions. (To keep it safe, the rockets will be powered by compressed air and run along a special rocket track set up indoors.) We’ll talk about thrust, inertia and drag, and then choose a rocket sled plan we think will go the fastest. A high-speed camera will record the results. Hosted by Val Germann and cosponsored by the Central Missouri Astronomical Association. Ages 9-12. Registration begins Tuesday, July 15.
Calling all Doctor Who fans! Jump in your TARDIS and visit the library circa 2014 to join us for games, trivia and activities based on the British science fiction TV series. We'll even build our own sonic screwdriver replica. Costumes optional. All ages.
Drop in with your children to handle and investigate old-school technology like rotary phones, a typewriter, a record player and much more. Ages 4 and older.
Learn about the science of dyes and mixing and matching color while you create your own tie-dyed t-shirt. We'll supply the shirts. All ages.
