Once again, our Summer Reading program was a success. This year’s theme was “Get Creative” for children up to age 12, and the teen theme was “Express Yourself.” In addition to reading, we encouraged kids to write, draw, paint, act and do other creative activities. For the second year in a row, there were also special components for babies/toddlers and small groups.
Patrons at each library and bookmobile stop enjoyed activities led by our staff members and entertainment from performers like Dr. Gesundheit (a professional clown) and storytellers Bobby Norfolk and Priscilla Howe.
Region-wide, 4,000 children ages 12 and under signed up for Summer Reading, a 7 percent increase over last year. Also, 280 teens signed up, a 40 percent increase over last year, and 80 finished, a 44 percent increase!
