Hallsville: New Library Book Hookup
Soon residents in the Hallsville area can get more than gas and snacks at Ed’s Quick Stop in Hallsville. Around Labor Day, library users will also be able to pick up books, music and DVDs at our Library-To-Go lockers inside Ed’s.
Library-To-Go is a secure system of lockers to which patrons’ requests will be delivered several times a week. Patrons then use their library cards to access their reserved items anytime Ed’s is open. A drive-up book drop will also be installed at Ed’s Quik Stop for convenient library returns.
The library also plans to set up Library-To-Go lockers in Holts Summit once a location is selected. The bookmobile will continue to visit both towns two times a month with books, music CDs and DVDs for check-out.
Boone & Callaway Counties: More Bookmobile Stops
As part of the library’s mission to nurture the love of reading in children, our new Bookmobile, Jr. will begin visiting child care centers around Boone and Callaway Counties beginning this fall, focusing on centers in towns without a library building. Children will be invited on board to check out books, music CDs, educational DVDs and other items. Library staff will also lead activities for the children.
Columbia: Reorganized Collections & Computers
Update: Since this article was first printed in the "Your Library" newsletter , our staff has figured out a more economical way to make more room for our expanding media collection. As a result, young adult books will actually remain on the first floor.
This summer at the Columbia Public Library , young adult books and some of the computers will trek to the second level to make way for our ever-expanding collection of DVDs and music CDs on the first floor. The computer stations with 30-minute time limits and those dedicated to catalog searches will remain on the first floor. Please pardon the disruption as we reorganize our collections and computer work stations.
In response to patron requests, we’ll also be adding a new self-service check-out machine on the second floor to be located next to the copiers. We applied for and received a Library Services and Technology Act grant from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services to help cover the cost of purchasing and installing the unit.
