Update: In June 2011, Ed's Quik Stop was renamed to "Ketchum's General Store."
Beginning Monday, August 30, people in the Hallsville and northern Boone County area can pick up and return library materials at Ed’s Quik Stop as part of the new Library-To-Go service from the Daniel Boone Regional Library.
Library-To-Go is a secure system of lockers in which patrons’ holds will be placed several times a week. Patrons use their library cards to access the lockers containing their reserved items. A drive-up book drop will be added outside at Ed’s Quik Stop for convenient returns.
“We are so pleased to have Library-To-Go here at Ed’s, because we believe this is good for our community,” said Rhonda Daly, owner of Ed’s Quik Stop. “It will help so many families being able to get library books every day right here in town, especially for the kids. Getting children in the habit of reading early is so important.” Anyone with a library card has access to all children’s and adult books and other materials available through the Daniel Boone Regional Library. They can search the catalog and place hold requests through the library’s website at www.dbrl.org or by calling the library at (573) 443-3161. Patrons can also continue picking up holds at the bookmobile’s bi-monthly visits or at the Columbia Public Library.
“We’re excited to launch this pilot project in Hallsville. We already have a large number of people placing holds in this area, so this will make it much more convenient for them to use their library,” said Melissa Carr, Daniel Boone Regional Library director. “One of the goals in our strategic plan is to seek strategic opportunities to expand access to library resources throughout the region. We’ve received so much positive feedback already about the lockers, that we feel that a lot of people will take advantage of this service.” The library also plans to set up Library-To-Go in Holts Summit once a location is selected. The bookmobile will continue to visit both towns two times a month , with its collection of books, music CDs and DVDs for check-out.
When people stop at Ed’s to pick up their requested items, they will also be able to browse and check out DVDs, thanks to a gift made by Frich Corporation, the manufacturer of the Library-To-Go system. The library will stock the donated DVD lock-a-shelf system with documentaries, cartoons, biographies, TV shows, "how-to" videos, historical subjects and more.
The library invites the public to a Hallsville Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting and a demonstration of the system August 30 at 10 a.m. at Ed’s Quik Stop, 13101 Route B in Hallsville. Between August 30 and September 4, library representatives will be on hand to help patrons and answer questions from noon to 7 p.m. Monday; from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; 2-6 p.m. on Wednesday; and from 9-11 a.m. Saturday. Ed’s Quik Stop is open Sunday through Thursday from 6 a.m.–10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 6 a.m.–11 p.m.
