Each trustee  serves on his own district board as well as on the regional library board, which is the governing body responsible for policy-making and fiscal oversight. A contract binds our three member library districts  into a regional system, allowing us to pool the resources of our whole region to give residents better service at lower cost.
Susan Daly is the new assistant vice president for the Investments and Retirement Planning Department at the Bank of Missouri  where she oversees the implementation and monitoring of compliance regulations for investments, as well as administering retirement plans and working with 401(k)/403(b) sponsors. She’s proud to have served on the Hallsville Board of Education  for six years as president and seven years as a board member.
She has been married to Larry for 35 years and has three children—Carl, Kevin and Megan—and two daughters-in-law, Cyndi and Misty. She admits to spoiling her three grandchildren, Tanner, Addyson and Madelyn, and looks forward to welcoming Blake to the Daly clan in November.
Why do you think libraries are important?
DBRL’s mission says “DBRL connects our communities to the world of information and ideas.” Our library system opens the world to all who come through our doors and users of our online services. With the current economic situation, more and more people are rediscovering the vast amount of information available at their libraries.
What made you apply to be on the library board?
I have always had a desire to give back to my community. I thought by serving on the library board I could help share information about library services with the Hallsville School District and other committees I serve on, as well as develop partnerships with those groups.
What are you most proud of regarding the Boone County Library District?
I am so proud to be a part of the first Library-To-Go  locker installation, especially since it was installed at Ed’s Quik Stop in Hallsville. As a member of the Hallsville community, I am excited our community was selected as one of the pilot locations.
What makes DBRL special?
One of the things that impressed me the most about DBRL was the quality and innovativeness of the staff. Take the Ashland facility  as an example. To meet the needs of the location, our staff had to think “outside the box” to make the current facility work. They have made the location inviting by changing the displays of reading materials, adding and relocating the patron computers to a better location and making use of every available space.
What challenges does DBRL face in the coming years?
DBRL will have to continue to be creative in meeting the needs of our patrons with our current facilities. As a resource center, it must be able to serve patrons from the oldest to the youngest, and continue expanding its online and bookmobile services.
