General Tips

  • Make sure you are using the latest version of your web browser software:
  • Be sure your browser (e.g. Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera etc.) is set to allow cookies and security level is set at medium or lower.

    You can find these settings by opening Internet Explorer, then clicking on Tools in the menu bar and selecting Internet Options. Click on the Privacy tab. Make sure the sliding selector is set to medium or lower.

  • Temporarily disable any pop-up blocking, advertisement-blocking, or similar browser enhancing software (e.g. Pop-up Stopper, Free Surfer mk II, PopVanish, etc.).
  • Clear your browser's cache/temporary internet files and delete any old cookies.

    Every Web page you request is saved in the Temporary Internet Files folder for quicker access the next time you visit that page. The History folder records every Web address you've visited during a set period of time. Cookies are small files stored on your computer for Web sites to keep track of how you use their site (e.g. online shopping sites). To clear these settings follow these instructions:

    1. In Internet Explorer, click on Tools in the menu bar and select Internet Options.
    2. Under the Temporary Internet files section, click the "Delete Cookies" button and then click the "Delete Files" button.In the History section, click the "Delete History" button.
    3. Click OK.
  • Temporarily disable any firewall or other Internet security software (except for anti-virus software) or adjust its configuration to allow transmission of your web browser's "Referring URL."
  • If you are still having difficulties accessing one of the library's electronic resources, please contact the webmaster.

Special Notes

  • Legal Forms:
    • This site does not work with Internet Explorer 7. Please use Firefox, Safari or Opera.
    • You may get a warning asking if you wish to accept the site's security certificate when downloading a specific legal form; just press the accept or continue button.
  • Heritage Quest
    • Does not work with Internet Explorer 5.1 on Mac OS 9. Instead, try using the Mozilla 1.2.
    • If you are asked for a username and password when accessing Heritage Quest after trying the above suggestions, click on the "If you do not have username and password, click here" link and send the "Diagnostic Information"
  • ReferenceUSA
    • If you're using a version of Internet Explorer earlier than 6.0, you may have problems printing without adjusting the page margins: In Internet Explorer, select File, then Page Setup.Adjust left and right margins to 0.25. Click OK
    • f your printed version looks different than how it appears on your screen:
      In Internet Explorer, select Tools, then Internet Options, Select the Advanced tab.Under Printing, make sure "Print background colors and images" is selcted. Click OK.
