• Central Missouri Food Bank and Food Pantry
  Click on “Click Here to Help Now” to find ways to help the hungry in Central Missouri.
• City of Columbia Utility Assistance - C.A.S.H and H.E.L.P. Programs
  City utility customers can pledge a monthly amount to their bill or make a one-time donation to provide assistance to others who have difficulty paying their bills. Donations
  to both programs are tax deductible.
• Rainbow House
  Click on “How You Can Help” to “keep children safe and to support families in crisis through prevention, assessment, and intervention in child abuse and neglect.”
• Salvation Army
  Click on “Donate Now” to make a monetary donation or enter a zip-code to find the location of your local Salvation Army Thrift or Family Store for donations of clothing, furniture or household items.
• United Way- Callaway County
  Click on “Donate Now” to make a donation and on “Our Agencies” to view the agencies that will benefit from the United Way funds.
• United Way - Columbia
  Click on “Give” to make a pledge and click on “Community Impact” to find out about all the local agencies that benefit from United Way funds.
• Imagination Library - United Way - Columbia
  This exciting program provides free books to children under the age of five living in Columbia. Started by Dolly Parton in her home county in Tennessee, this program has helped children to be ready for school.
• Voluntary Action Center – Boone County
  This non-profit social service agency has information on many local community needs and programs. Click on “Contribute” to find out how you can help.

Library Supporting

• Daniel Boone Regional Library Foundation
  The DBRL Foundation seeks and receives private support for all the library facilities in order to enrich collections, strengthen services and meet the needs for up-to-date equipment.
• Daniel Boone Regional Library Friends Groups
  Each of the Daniel Boone Regional Library system's facilities is assisted and supported in their efforts by a Friends group. These volunteer organizations raise funds at regularly scheduled book sales to provide the library with additional funds for needed materials and services. Books for each group's sales come from donations to the Friends. Materials donated to the sales are first reviewed for addition to the collection. If they are not added, they are sold at the book sales.

A selection of national and international organizations that provide opportunities for donations to "keep on giving."

• Action Against Hunger
  Action Against Hunger’s programs provide “vital services in some 40 countries around the world.” Click on “Donate Now” to see the organization’s ratings and tax deduction status.
• Catholic Relief Services
  In addition to emergency assistance after natural disasters, the C.R.S. undertakes projects to improve agricultural yields, provide water and sanitation assistance plus micro-financing for small businesses. Also builds schools and community based health care systems.
• Doctors Without Borders
  International medical humanitarian organization that provides medical aid to “people whose survival is threatened” by disease, malnutrition, armed conflict or epidemics. Currently they are responding to the cholera outbreak in Zimbabwe. MWF received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1999.
• Feeding America
  Click on “Donate Now” or use the locator to find your local food bank.
• Freedom From Hunger
  An international development organization that focuses on self-help programs “that invest in women and their determination to feed their children.”
• Heifer.org
  Non-profit organization that provides livestock, bees, tree seedlings, training and support to help villages and communities build sustainable futures. “Passing on the gift” occurs when “each family and community that receives assistance promises to repay their living loan by donating one or more of their animal’s offspring to another family in need.”
• The Hunger Project
  A “global, non-profit, strategic organization committed to the sustainable end of world hunger “ through programs that help families and women solve their own hunger problems.”
• KickStart International
  Promotes sustainable cost-effective economic growth through small business development in rural areas of Kenya, Tanzania, Mali and Burkina Faso in order to fulfill their mission of lifting people out of poverty.
• Network for Good
  “A secure, convenient donation system that makes it possible to give to any charity, anywhere, anytime online.” Click on “For Donors “to support your favorite charities in one place and have your records stored for tax time.”
• Oxfam
  Your gift will buy a goat, plant trees, buy seeds or irrigate farming land in one of the 120 countries that Oxfam operates in.
• Partners in Health
  The PIH model of care is to partner with poor communities to combat disease and poverty. Active in the slums of Peru and Haiti, the organization is currently tackling the HIV pandemic in Rwanda and Lesotho.
• Save the Children
  “Save the Children works in more that 50 countries, including the United States… to save and improve children’s lives… through a wide range of programs: training new mothers with prenatal care, supplying life-saving immunizations for young children, building schools, improving literacy and nutrition for children.”
• UNICEF
  The United Nation’s Children’s Fund has one purpose “to help children survive.” Their work includes life-saving projects such as clean water and sanitation, childhood vaccinations, food aid to prevent malnutrition, medical help for children with AIDS and education programs.
• Women for Women International
  Helps “women survivors of war rebuild their lives.”
• World Vision
  International Christian relief and development organization that sponsors long–term development through building wells, micro-financing, seeds and tools etc. Choose from a wide range of ways to give at all income levels.

  The Missouri Attorney General’s web site has information on charities that have submitted IRS Form 990.
• American Institute of Philanthropy Rating Guide
  A rating guide based on percentage of revenues used in program costs.
• Better Business Bureau National Charity Reports
  An alphabetical listing of charity reports on larger national charities.
• Charity Navigator Rankings
  Investigates the financial health of major charitable organizations and provides advice on how to be an informed giver. Highlights charitable organizations responding to current emergency relief efforts anywhere in the world.
• Christian Charities
  Check Ministry Watch for profiles of the 400 largest church ministries or the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability for information on Christian charity groups.
• Guidestar
  A large database of charities with budgets over $25,000. Register for free to get a full report.
• “How to Check Out a Charity”
  Learn more about evaluating charities at Charity Choices.com.
• Tax Deductible Charitable Contributions
  Search IRS Publication 78 for a list of 501c (3) charities that have registered with the IRS enabling taxpayers to take an income tax deduction when they donate.

• Catalog of Federal Grants
  The Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance is the source for Federal grants to state and local governments, organizations and individuals plus information on how to apply and how to write a grant proposal.
• Foundation Center
  Private philanthropy funding source, with guides to proposal writing, budgeting basics or grants for individuals in arts, writers, students etc. (The Foundation Directory Online Search section of the site can be used at DBRL libraries; ask staff for assistance.)
• The Grantsmanship Center
  Free access to funding sources in each state plus information on upcoming training programs for grant seekers. Register for free access to daily grant announcements from the Federal Register. Workshops and publications are fee-based.
