The Iron Curtain Speech

On March 5, 1946, the English statesman Sir Winston Churchill delivered a speech at Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri. Entitled “The Sinews of Peace,” the speech is most famous for Churchill’s description of Soviet Russia as an “iron curtain” descending across Europe.
