Magazines & Newspapers
A variety of newspapers and magazines are available at each library and even on the bookmobile. The Columbia library has a wide range of magazines and newspapers from around the state and major U.S. cities on the third floor mezzanine. Current issues and two years of back issues are available for browsing. You can also find and read articles in hundreds of magazines online with EBSCO and other databases to which the library subscribes.
In the Columbia library, you'll also find magazine collections for children and teens in their respective areas. The back issues of some of these are available for check-out.
Small Press and Literary Journals
The library is one of the few places you can browse or borrow literary journals from all the local high schools and colleges as well as national titles like The Missouri Review, The Paris Review, Tri-Quarterly and Granta.
Comics & Graphic Novels
DBRL has a collection of serial comics for kids and teens, including titles like Archie, Sonic, Superman and Batman. You can read comics in the library, but not check them out.
You'll also find a variety of comics, manga and graphic novels in bound paperback and hardback formats for kids, teens and adults. Most graphic novels are classified in the Dewey Decimal system as nonfiction, so you'll find them at or near call number 741.59. Teen and adult nonfiction are shelved together; "YA" titles are marked with a sticker on the spine.
