Streaming and Downloadable Music

Freegal offers access to more than 9 million songs and music from over 28,000 labels. Download up to 5 songs a week and stream up to 5 hours of music a day.

How do I get it?
  1. Go to the library’s Freegal site and log in with your library card number and PIN (usually your birth date in the format MMDDYYYY). Browse songs and download or add them to playlists for streaming.
  2. Download 5 songs each week in standard MP3 format, and keep them as long as you like.
  3. Download the Freegal app for your Android device (using Google Play) or your Apple iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch (using the App Store) to download, store and play your Freegal MP3 files.
Do I really get to keep the songs I download?

Yes. You can keep the songs you download – forever! Note that Freegal is unable to restore music libraries that have been lost. For this reason, we highly recommend backing up your files to an external hard drive or a cloud-based service, for example.

When do my downloads reset?

Sunday night your downloads reset, and you can then download five more songs.

  3. Search or browse for the item you want to borrow, then click or tap “Borrow.” The item will now be added to your “My Titles” list.
  4. In a Web browser, click or tap “Play” to begin streaming your item. In an Android or Apple iOS app, tap “Play” to begin listening or watching immediately or the download icon to save the title on your device for playback later. (Note: Firefox may require that you install the Widevine plugin for video content.)
How many items can I check out at a time?

You can check out up to ten items per calendar month.

How long can I keep the items I borrow from Hoopla?

Movie and TV content is available for 72 hours (3 days).
Music albums are available for 7 days.
eBooks, comics and audiobooks are available for 21 days.

Can I read, listen to or view what I borrow on more than one device?

Once you borrow a title on one device it is automatically available via all devices with the Hoopla app or on your computer through your browser.

What is the difference between downloading and streaming titles?

All titles are available for streaming (requires continuous internet connection) on a computer or laptop. Using the Hoopla app on an iOS or Android device allows you to download the title for listening and viewing offline. Streaming content to your mobile device when not connected to a Wi-Fi network will impact your mobile device’s data allowance.

Keep items for 7, 14 or 21 days – you can set your default preferences in your OverDrive account settings. You can also choose the lending period for individual items when you check out.

Can I return items early?

Magazines - Formerly Zinio

How do I get it?
    1. Visit DBRL’s digital magazines page using a web browser (on a computer or tablet) and click the “Create New Account” link.
    2. Enter your library card number and follow the prompts to create an account using your email address and a password you create.
    3. Browse, check out and read your favorite magazines using your device’s browser.
    4. If you want to download and read your magazines on a tablet or mobile device, download the RBdigital mobile app (for Android, Apple devices or Kindle Fire), and sign in to the app using the email and password you created to log in to DBRL’s digital magazines page. You can use the app to read your magazines offline and download additional magazines.
How many magazines can I download?

You can download an unlimited number of magazines, but you are limited by the space available on your device or computer.

I checked out some magazines using a computer’s browser. How do I now use the RBdigital app to read them offline?

Make sure you have logged in to the RBdigital app (for Android, Apple devices or Kindle Fire) with the same email and password that you created when signing up for RBdigital (or Zinio for Libraries, if you were a Zinio user). Once you log in, your magazines will automatically appear in the app.

What happens to the magazines I downloaded using the Zinio app once I switch to the RBdigital app?

When you delete the Zinio app, all downloaded magazines will be removed from your device. The new RBdigital app will remember your previous check-outs, but you will need to re-download those magazines to make them available offline for reading in the new app.

Do I have to return magazine titles once they are downloaded to my device?
No, the magazines will remain on your device until you decide to delete them. To remove or restore RBdigital titles, click on the Edit button in the RBdigtial app or edit your Reading List in your RBdigital online account. To remove RBdigital titles, tap the X on the Magazine Cover, or choose Return next to the Read button.
