To use this free service, you need to live in Boone or Callaway County and have a current Daniel Boone Regional Library card.

How do I get it?
  1. Go to the library’s Freegal site and log in with your library card number and PIN (usually your birth date in the format MMDDYYYY). Browse songs and download or add them to playlists for streaming.
  2. Download 5 songs each week in standard MP3 format, and keep them as long as you like.
  3. Download the Freegal app for your Android device (using Google Play) or your Apple iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch (using the App Store) to download, store and play your Freegal MP3 files.
FAQs
Do I really get to keep the songs I download?

Yes. You can keep the songs you download – forever! Note that Freegal is unable to restore music libraries that have been lost.For this reason, we highly recommend backing up your files to an external hard drive or a cloud-based service, for example.

When do my downloads reset?

Sunday night your downloads reset, and you can then download five more songs.

Hoopla allows you to stream and download audiobooks, comics, eBooks, movies, music and television shows.

  • Check out up to 15 items per month.
  • Read/watch/listen on the Hoopla app or via computer.
  • Movies and TV shows check out for 3 days; music albums for 7 days; eBooks, audiobooks and comics for 21 days.

To use this free service, you need to live in Boone or Callaway County and have a current Daniel Boone Regional Library card.

How do I get it?
  1. Visit hoopladigital.com, or download the Apple iOS, Android or Amazon app.
  2. Click “Log In” and then “Sign Up.” Select “Daniel Boone Regional Library.” You will need to provide your DBRL library card number, PIN (usually your birthdate in MMDDYYYY format), and then create a Hoopla account using your email address and a password you create.
  3. Search or browse for the item you want to borrow, then click or tap “Borrow.” The item will now be added to your “My Titles” list.
  4. In a Web browser, click or tap “Play” to begin streaming your item. In an Android or Apple iOS app, tap “Play” to begin listening or watching immediately or the download icon to save the title on your device for playback later. (Note: Firefox may require that you install the Widevine plugin for video content.)

How many items can I check out at a time?

As of December 1, 2020, you can check out up to fifteen items per calendar month.

How long can I keep the items I borrow from Hoopla?

Movie and TV content is available for 72 hours (3 days).
Music albums are available for 7 days.
eBooks, comics and audiobooks are available for 21 days.

Can I read, listen to or view what I borrow on more than one device?

Once you borrow a title on one device it is automatically available via all devices with the Hoopla app or on your computer through your browser.

What is the difference between downloading and streaming titles?

All titles are available for streaming (requires continuous internet connection) on a computer or laptop. Using the Hoopla app on an iOS or Android device allows you to download the title for listening and viewing offline. Streaming content to your mobile device when not connected to a Wi-Fi network will impact your mobile device’s data allowance.

  1. Visit DBRL’s Kanopy site or download the Apple iOS or Android app.
  2. Click “Sign Up” to create a Kanopy account.
  3. Confirm your account by clicking the link in the confirmation email (skip this step by logging in with Google or Facebook).
  4. Enter your library card number and PIN when prompted.

How many videos can I watch?

You can watch up to 12 videos per month. Once you begin playing a video you have 3 days (72 hours) to watch it as many times as you like. Your play credits reset on the first of every month.

How do I watch videos on my television?

You can play videos on your television using Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Apple TV, or Chromecast. Visit Kanopy’s help page for detailed instructions on using your device.

How do I get it?
For tablets and smartphones
  1. Visit your device’s app store (Google Play for Android Devices or the App Store for Apple iOS devices), find and install the Libby app.
  2. Find your library by name or postal code.
  3. Log in to the app using your library card number and PIN (by default, your date of birth in the format MMDDYYYY).
For all other devices
  1. Depending on whether you plan to read or listen to books on a computer, e-reader or MP3 player, the software you need to use OverDrive varies.
  2. Visit OverDrive’s getting started page, and scroll down to select instructions for your device or computer.
  3. Search dbrl.overdrive.com or libbyapp.com/library/dbrl to find and download your favorite titles.

How many items can I check out at a time?

Borrow up to 10 titles at a time and return them early if you want. You can place up to 10 titles on hold.

How long can I keep the items I borrow from OverDrive?

Keep items for 7, 14 or 21 days – you can set your default preferences in your OverDrive account settings. You can also choose the lending period for individual items when you check out. Items can be renewed starting three days before their due dates if there are no holds on them.

Can I return items early?

Yes. The procedures for returning items vary depending on whether you are using the Libby app, a Kindle device or Adobe Digital Editions on your computer.

eBooks: See the “Returning and removing eBooks” section of OverDrive’s help pages and select the instructions for your device or computer.

Audiobooks: See the “Returning and removing audiobooks” section of OverDrive’s help pages and select the instructions for your device or computer.

Can I read or listen to what I borrow on more than one device?

Yes. In the Libby app, your eBooks will sync across devices when you sign in with the same library card number and PIN. Kindle books borrowed through the same Amazon account will sync across devices.

The DBRL catalog is available online.

The catalog is also available as an app to help you easily find books, CDs and DVDs, place holds and manage your account from your device. The DBRL Mobile app is easy to navigate and full of useful features:

  • Search the catalog and browse new titles.
  • Place and manage holds.
  • View what you have checked out and renew materials.
  • Access Shelves (Completed, In Progress, For Later) so you can keep track of what you’ve read and would like to read.
  • View library hours, locations and contact information.
  • Scan the barcode of any book, DVD or CD to see if it’s in the library’s collection.

The app is available for both Android (version 7+) and Apple (iOS version 11+) devices.
