Night View Columbia: 25 Years of Columbia History in Photographs

a photo taken by Stephen Bybee of Lowry Mall from 1997Enjoy this retrospective look at the history of our downtown cityscape through 25 years of photographs by Stephen Bybee.

First interested in photography at the age of 12, Bybee studied at MU with professor Oliver Schuchard and Columbia College with professor Ed Collings in the 1990s. In 1998 he became interested in black and white photography and then with the visual magic offered by nocturnal photography. This was also the year he began to focus on downtown Columbia as his subject matter. He has continued to document downtown Columbia at night for over 25 years.

This exhibit will be on display through April 2024 at the Columbia Public Library.

You can hear Bybee speak about his work Thursday, April 25 at 6 p.m. at the library.
