
Position Title: Read to Succeed Tutoring Volunteer
Reports To: Abbey Rimel, Outreach Manager

Position Type: Volunteer
Objective: Tutoring students in the Read to Succeed Adult Basic Literacy Program.
Overview:
The Read to Succeed tutoring volunteer will serve as a reading tutor for adult
students who need extra support in developing their literacy skills. Volunteer reading tutors
play a crucial role in helping adults improve their literacy, build confidence and open doors to
economic independence and educational possibilities.
Responsibilities:
- Schedule regular tutoring sessions with students.
- Work one-on-one or in small groups with students to enhance their reading skills.
- Assess students’ reading levels and tailor sessions to meet individual needs.
- Use engaging and age-appropriate materials to promote reading comprehension and
fluency. - Encourage and motivate students to develop a positive attitude towards reading.
- Track student progress and identify areas for improvement.
- Create a supportive and encouraging learning environment.
- Attend training sessions and volunteer meetings as required.
- Time commitment may include 1-2 hours per week.
Qualifications:
- Passion for reading and a desire to help students succeed.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience and understanding.
- Ability to commit to a regular tutoring schedule.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in tutoring or working with adults in an educational environment.
