Position Title: Read to Succeed Tutoring Volunteer

Reports To: Abbey Rimel, Outreach Manager

Department: Outreach / Community Resources

Position Type: Volunteer

Objective: Tutoring students in the Read to Succeed Adult Basic Literacy Program.

Overview:
The Read to Succeed tutoring volunteer will serve as a reading tutor for adult
students who need extra support in developing their literacy skills. Volunteer reading tutors
play a crucial role in helping adults improve their literacy, build confidence and open doors to
economic independence and educational possibilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Schedule regular tutoring sessions with students.
  • Work one-on-one or in small groups with students to enhance their reading skills.
  • Assess students’ reading levels and tailor sessions to meet individual needs.
  • Use engaging and age-appropriate materials to promote reading comprehension and
    fluency.
  • Encourage and motivate students to develop a positive attitude towards reading.
  • Track student progress and identify areas for improvement.
  • Create a supportive and encouraging learning environment.
  • Attend training sessions and volunteer meetings as required.
  • Time commitment may include 1-2 hours per week.

Qualifications:

  • Passion for reading and a desire to help students succeed.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience and understanding.
  • Ability to commit to a regular tutoring schedule.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in tutoring or working with adults in an educational environment.
