One Read, coordinated by the Daniel Boone Regional Library since 2002, is a community-wide reading program sponsored by a task force of local media and community agencies.
Through One Read, our communities, counties, media, schools and businesses join together in encouraging adults of all ages to read one book over the summer and in September participate in thought-provoking discussion and activities. The program is generously underwritten by the Friends of the Columbia Public Library.
Choosing the Book
Each November, the public submits suggestions for next year’s book. In January, a panel of community members reviews the suggestions, narrowing that list down to 10 titles, and then chooses two or three books to present for a public vote in the spring.
Visit our One Read website for a list of all past One Read selections and runner-up titles, as well as discussion guides for the winning books.
Each September library staff and the One Read task force present programs related to the One Read selection. In addition to the author’s visit and book discussions, we provide panel presentations, films, an art exhibit, a writing contest and more.
