Current Fundraiser: Library-To-Go Lockers

The library has the opportunity to bring new and innovative access to library materials through a Library-To-Go locker system that will be placed in an underserved area of Columbia. These self-service lockers allow community members to pick up and return library materials at times and locations that are most convenient for them, extending the reach of the library far beyond our walls.

The total cost of this project is estimated at $43,000, making it one of the largest fundraising initiatives we’ve undertaken for a fall fundraiser.

The Impact of Library-To-Go Lockers

As our community grows, so does the need for flexible, equitable access to library services. Library-To-Go lockers provide extended access to library materials, ensuring that busy families, students and working adults can enjoy the benefits of the library on their own schedule. They are particularly valuable in areas farther from existing library branches, reducing barriers such as transportation and scheduling conflicts.

Families can place holds online and pick them up at the lockers; students can access resources to support their learning; and adults can enjoy books, movies and other materials without having to travel across town. In short, these lockers bring the library directly into the heart of the community.

Keeping the Momentum Going

Library-To-Go lockers have proven to be a success in Hallsville and Holts Summit, with strong community usage and overwhelmingly positive feedback. Placing a new set of lockers in Columbia will build on this success and meet a demonstrated need for library access.
