Unearth a Story™ This Summer at Your Library!

It’s time for summer reading and at the Daniel Boone Regional Library, we’re going to Unearth a Story.™ Whether you love dinosaurs and history, gardening or genealogy, there’s definitely a way for everyone to dig into the fun this summer.

For teens, the Summer Reading Challenge will consist of reading 15 hours, sharing three book reviews and doing seven activities. You can read anything you want, but if you’d like some ideas, take a look at our summer booklist!

Beginning July 1, teens who finish all the tasks can claim a free book or a dinosaur planter and be entered into a drawing for local gift cards.

Some of the awesome programs happening this summer include:

Tarot & Talk – Saturday, June 13, 2 pm
Columbia Public Library

This isn’t a how-to, but will allow you the chance to meet up with other tarot-loving folks. We’ll provide the space, snacks and a free journal. We will also have some tarot decks on hand, but feel free to bring your own.

“Jurassic Park” Interactive Watch Party – Friday, June 26, 8 pm
Lakeside Ashland (just outside of Ashland)

Celebrate dinos at this free interactive showing of “Jurassic Park,” the original 1993 Steven Spielberg film. Follow along with prompts while watching the movie with other fans. Watch from your car or bring a blanket or chairs and convince yourself the rustling in the trees is probably the wind.

Marvel Comics Workshop With Jerry DeCaire – Illustrator of Wolverine, Deadpool, Thor & More – Saturday, June 27, 10 am or 2 pm
Columbia Public Library

This presentation begins with a semi-animated slideshow detailing how a comic book is made, followed by a real-time drawing performance by Jerry, known as one of the fastest artists on the planet! Participants can enter a drawing for the chance to win a free demo-drawing or a color print. Please register.

Unearth the History of Cemeteries – Monday, July 20, 6 pm

Unearth fascinating and obscure funeral practices from around the world and discover how they have influenced modern traditions and cemeteries. This presentation is for all ages, but discretion is advised.
