Stairs Closed for Repair at Columbia Public Library

Exterior library stairs under construction
New stairs in progress October 23

Update: Due to some weather delays, the reconstruction of the library stairs will take approximately a week longer than anticipated. The full project, including improved handicapped-accessible spaces and resealing of the parking lot, should be done before Thanksgiving.

The stair demolition as of September 28.

The stairs leading into the Columbia library from the south parking lot are currently closed for reconstruction. The sidewalk in front of them will also be replaced. We anticipate this will take about a month, so we’re hopeful that the stairs will reopen the week of October 23.

In the meantime, please use the ramp along the south side of the building. (Look for the blue “Welcome” banner on a pole near the ramp entrance.).

While the construction crew is on site, they will also redo the handicapped-accessible parking spaces in front of the ramp. This work will be done in phases so that some handicapped spaces will always be available. (We also have more handicapped-accessible parking spaces in our north parking lot that borders Broadway.) After all that is completed, the work crew will reseal the rest of the parking lot.
