Weaving With CDs

While summer is a time for swimming and playing outdoors, sometimes you just want to sit inside in the air conditioning! If you’re looking for a relaxing activity you can do inside with your kiddos, try weaving on an old CD. Once you get the hang of it, it’s a fun and relaxing way to spend some time. All you need is some yarn, a plastic darning needle and old or scratched CDs. Here’s the instructions — go forth and create!

We recently had a program where we made these at DBRL, and we’ve started an art installation at the Columbia Public Library. We even have free kits at the Children’s Desk at the Columbia Public Library with all of the necessary materials, so you can make one and add to our art display! If you use your own supplies instead, consider donating a finished one to the library so everyone can admire it.
