The Daniel Boone Regional Library has signed an agreement with Schnuck Markets, Inc. to install a set of self-service Library-To-Go lockers at its Battle Crossing store located at 5410 Clark Lane. The installation date is yet to be determined.
The Library-To-Go lockers and an exterior book drop will allow community members to pick up items on reserve and return library materials at times that are most convenient for them. In addition to books, people can reserve and pick up music CDs and DVDs. A free library card is all you need to use the lockers.
“We were looking for a locker location in an area of Columbia that doesn’t have quick and easy access to the Columbia Public Library,” said Robin Westphal, Daniel Boone Regional Library executive director. “We identified the northeast section of metro Columbia as a part of town that would greatly benefit from having easier access to library materials. It’s close to Battle High School and Battle Elementary which will make it convenient for those families as well as those living in the surrounding neighborhoods. We thought Schnucks would be an ideal location.”

“At Schnucks, we want to be more than just a purveyor of goods; we strive to ingrain our stores in the many communities in which we operate throughout the Midwest,” said Michael Modarelli with Schnucks Corporate Real Estate. “Our new partnership with the Daniel Boone Regional Library is an example of this commitment to Columbia — a city that we have proudly served for more than 50 years.”
In 2025, the Daniel Boone Regional Library Foundation successfully raised the funds needed to purchase and install a set of Library-To-Go lockers in an underserved area of the library’s service area. Through the Foundation’s fall fundraising campaign, donations for the lockers totaled $48,210.40.
“We feel the lockers are a cost effective way of getting library services to more communities in our two-county service area of Boone and Callaway Counties,” said Westphal. “We hope to add more in the future.” The library currently has Library-To-Go lockers at Prenger Foods in Hallsville and in Holts Summit at the Holts Summit Public Library.
