Artist Trading Card Exchange

Dearest Gentle Readers,

It has come to our attention that the Columbia Public Library is hosting a most exquisite affair, and you are cordially invited to participate in our miniature art exhibition. As the esteemed Pablo Picasso once noted, “Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.” Indeed, what better way to escape the monotony of society than through the creation of beauty, one small, exquisite piece at a time?

We cordially invite all aspiring adult and teen artists to participate in an Artist Trading Card (ATC) exchange, commencing on World Art Day, April 15, and continuing until May 15.

For those yet to be initiated into this delightful tradition, ATCs are miniature works of art, meticulously created in any medium of your choosing, measuring a precise 2.5 x 3.5 inches.

To ensure this endeavor is deemed the “Diamond of the Season,” we ask that you adhere to the following guidelines with the utmost propriety:

The Dimensions of Propriety: Each artistic masterpiece must measure precisely 2.5 x 3.5 inches, no larger, no smaller.

Originality Is Paramount: All works must be original creations. We cannot accept copies of another’s work, as that would be quite vulgar.

Medium & Form: You may employ any medium — drawing, collage, fiber, or mixed media — so long as it is dry and remarkably flat.

A Discreet Signature: Should you wish to reclaim your art after the exhibition, please inscribe your name or initials on the back of your creation.

Quantity: You are permitted — nay, encouraged — to create as many as your heart desires.

A Note on Decorum: All entries must follow library behavior and display guidelines. Any card found in violation of these standards will be removed immediately. Please remain respectful and kind.

The Exhibition: The cards will be on display near the Columbia Public Library Welcome Desk while the program is running. Please note we are not monitoring who takes one or who gives one, so act with discretion.

The Season’s End: The exhibit concludes on May 15. You may reclaim your work at the Help Desk for two weeks following this date.

Whether your talent lies in delicate watercolor, intricate collage, or bold ink, this is your moment to shine in the social spotlight. Should you require further inspiration, you may consult this list of finely curated items, designed to satisfy the most demanding of tastes. One simply must not be a wallflower when such a charming artistic pursuit awaits. Make haste to your art supplies and prepare to stun the ton!

Yours Truly,

The Library Staff
